How to Cite a Magazine in MLA Format



Basic Information

  • Begin by listing the author of the article with the title of the article in quotation marks and italicizing the magazine title. Ensure you put the date of the publication and abbreviate the month. See example below:

  • —Author(s)."Title of Article." Title of Periodical. Day Month Year: pages. Medium of publication.

    —Jackson, Smith. "Focus on Africa." Time 19 Dec. 2012: 85-16. Print.

Electronic Magazine

  • For electronic magazine, indicate the name of the author, name of the article in quotes, title of the electronic magazine italics, publishers name, date of publication, medium of publication and the date it was accessed. Use n.p if it wasn’t published and n.d if n.d if not publishing date was issued.
